Aiyenugba Backs Chelle Contract Renewal, Calls for Stability in Super Eagles Camp

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Dele Aiyenugba has thrown his weight behind head coach Eric Sekou Chelle, urging the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to move quickly and extend the Franco-Malian’s contract.

Aiyenugba praised Chelle’s impact since taking charge, noting that there has been visible improvement in the Super Eagles’ organisation, confidence and overall performance.

“You can clearly see the difference in the team. There is structure, belief and improvement,” Aiyenugba said.

“What this team needs now is stability. Changing coaches too often will only take us backwards.”

The former shot-stopper stressed that continuity is key if Nigeria are to build a strong and competitive side capable of challenging at major tournaments.

“Chelle should be given time to continue his work. Extending his contract will allow him to fully implement his ideas and take the Super Eagles to the level Nigerians expect,” he added.

Aiyenugba concluded that Nigeria is on the right path and warned that disrupting the progress with uncertainty over the coaching position could derail the gains already made.
