Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Dele Aiyenugba has advised the Nigeria Football Federation to reconsider Nigeria’s participation in the planned invitational tournament scheduled to take place in Jordan.
Aiyenugba raised concerns about the security situation in the Middle East, warning that the instability in parts of the region could pose potential risks for players, officials, and other members of the Nigeria national football team delegation.

“Considering the current security situation in the region, it may be better for Nigeria to pull out of the tournament,” Aiyenugba said.
The former international explained that tensions in countries close to Israel and Iran have already disrupted several activities, including sporting events, which makes participation in such an environment uncertain.
“Football activities have already been affected in some of the neighbouring countries,” he noted.
According to Aiyenugba, the unpredictability of the situation means that even the tournament itself may face logistical challenges or possible cancellation.
“There is no guarantee that the competition will go ahead as planned,” he added.
He stressed that the safety and welfare of players should always come first, regardless of the potential benefits that the tournament might provide in terms of preparation and team development.
“The safety of players and officials must always be the priority,” he explained.
Aiyenugba acknowledged that international tournaments can help the team build cohesion and gain valuable match experience but insisted that security considerations must outweigh sporting ambitions in this situation.
“Football is important, but the safety of everyone involved is more important,” he said.
He concluded by urging the federation to carefully evaluate the circumstances before making a final decision.
“With the uncertainty surrounding the region, withdrawing from the tournament may be the most sensible option,” Aiyenugba stated.
