Age cheat allegations hits Flying Eagles camp ahead of U-20 AFCON

The invitation of Niger Tornadoes forward Kenneth James to the camp of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles ahead of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Niger Republic has been met by age cheat allegations by online fans in Nigeria.

The forward is expected to meet up with the rest of the team in Abuja after receiving the call up from head coach Paul Aigbogun on Tuesday.

James’ club Niger Tornadoes on Twitter congratulated the star who has been impressive for the team during their preseason campaign. The club’s official handle wrote. “Congratulations to our very own forward Kenneth James, as he has been invited to the @thenff U20 camp.”

The call up given to the former Akwa United man has caused uproar among football fans in Nigeria who believe that Kenneth is way older than the said age and should be taken off the list.

@Deartonye wrote. “This is 2019, are we still age cheating? How can this dude be less than 20?”

@iam_Oambode also compared foreign under 20 players to Kenneth. “So you mean this guy and Mpampe are age mate? Nigeria we can do better than this”.

The 2019 U-20 AFCON kicks off on February 2nd in Niamy Niger Republic with the Flying Eagles billed to play Burundi, South Africa and host Niger as they fight for one of the four available 2019 U-20 FIFA World Cup ticket.
