As reactions continue trailing the fifth consecutive title won by Nigeria’s female basketball team, D’Tigress at the African championship in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, one of the players, Amy Okonkwo says she feels blessed being part of the squad.
Sports247 reports that the 28-year-old Bourges of France forward, who previously played for Landereau BC in the same country, also gave thanks to everyone who made it possible for her to be in the historic team.

Okonkwo, who will be 29 on the 26th of this month, said gleefully, “I feel incredibly blessed and thankful to be here with this team, with this coaching staff, with these people, with this village.”
Amy Okonkwo then went on to admit how proud playing for Nigeria makes her feel, then singled out for particular accolades, D’Tigress’ coach, Rena Wakama, who she described as an amazing woman who creates amazing moments for her players.
“It feels amazing to be able to represent my country, and it feels amazing to be coached by this woman right here.
“It feels amazing to be able to play alongside these women that I get to play with and experience this with.”
Amy Okonkwo, who was named the competition’s most valuable player for the second straight edition, concluded by revealing her emotions and declared: “I feel so blessed to be able to do it.”
Sports247 gathered that Okonkwo was outstanding in D’Tigress’ 78-64 victory over Mali during Sunday night’s final; as she got 19 points, nine rebounds, and three assists in guiding the Nigerian squad to a fifth straight title.
