AfroBasket 2025: D’Tigers’ Coach Hints at Physical, Selfless Play In Q/F Clash With Senegal

Nigeria’s coach at the ongoing African Men’s Senior Basketball Championship (AfroBasket 2025) in Luanda, Angola, Mohammed Abdulrahman has served up a strong hint that his team will give a physically strong and selfless performance against Senegal during Wednesday’s quarter-final clash.

Sports247 reports that Abdulrahman is already satisfied with his squad’s performance so far at the championship, but admitted that D’Tigers will have to keep their feet on the throttle against the five-time winners.

Abdulrahman further disclosed that D’Tigers will roll out their true Nigerian identity and fighting spirit, as they seek to keep on track towards a second ever AfroBasket title.

The soft-spoken tactician disclosed, “Our identity is just in how we play. We have the spirit of Nigeria in us, and we are very resilient.”

He adnitted that his players struggled during the fourth quarter of their last group game victory over Cameroon, as they gave away a 14 point lead to win 99-90, but said it also reflected D’Tigers’ ability to keep stomping back.

“In every situation we find ourselves, we are always going to bounce back and do better. That’s just our identity. We’re never gonna give up. We’ll just keep playing hard.

“Coming down here, we told ourselves that we have to be a very physical and selfless team. That’s what we’ve been able to do so far,” Abdulrahman submitted.

Sports247 reports that victory over Senegal in Pavilhao Multiusos de Luanda will not only take D’Tigers into the semi-finals, it will also bring back memory of how they beat the same team en route to winning Nigeria’s only AfroBasket title in 2015.
