Team Nigeria made history on Wednesday at the inaugural African School Games in Annaba, Algeria, winning double gold medals in the badminton singles event.
Precious Oluwagbotemi Adekunle delivered Nigeria’s first gold of the tournament after defeating her Egyptian opponent in the girls’ singles final. Adekunle showcased exceptional skill and tactical brilliance to secure the top podium finish.

Moments later, Edun David Damilare doubled Nigeria’s success by winning the boys’ singles category. In a thrilling contest, Edun displayed grit and determination to overpower his opponent, securing Nigeria’s second gold medal of the day.
The quest for more victories is still alive as the Adekunle sisters – Precious and Cynthia – are set to compete in the girls’ doubles final later today. Additionally, Edun David will team up with Cynthia Adekunle for the mixed doubles final, raising hopes for a clean sweep in badminton.
These achievements add to the two silver medals Nigeria secured earlier in the Games, further cementing the nation’s strong performance at the event.
