South Africa reaffirmed their dominance in African hockey as both their men’s and women’s teams were crowned champions at the 2025 Africa Hockey Cup of Nations in Ismailia, Egypt, sealing qualification for the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands.
In the men’s competition, South Africa powered past hosts Egypt 5–1 in a thrilling final to secure their 12th Africa Cup crown.

The victory capped off a dominant campaign for the South Africans, who once again proved to be the continent’s benchmark in both quality and consistency.
Nigeria’s men’s team finished third, claiming the bronze medal after a convincing 3–1 win over Kenya.
The result marked a proud moment for the West Africans, who showcased grit and growth throughout the tournament.
Kenya, despite the defeat, earned plaudits for their spirited displays and technical progress.
In the women’s event, South Africa’s women’s side defeated Ghana 4–0 in the final to claim their eighth consecutive African title, maintaining an unbroken streak that stretches over a decade.
Star defender Jean-Leigh du Toit led from the front, netting twice from penalty corners, while Kayla de Waal and Hannah Pearce added their names to the scoresheet in a commanding display.
Kenya’s women’s team secured the bronze medal after edging Nigeria 1–0 in a tense third-place playoff, completing the podium for the 9th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
FIH President Tayyab Ikram praised the tournament’s success and the progress of African hockey, commending both the champions and the hosts:
