#AFCON23: Peseiro’s Insight – Super Eagles Manager Talks Osimhen’s Fitness, Game Plan Ahead Of AFCON Semifinal

Ahead of the highly anticipated Africa Cup of Nations semifinal clash against Bafana Bafana, Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro addressed the media in a pre-match press conference, shedding light on various crucial aspects concerning his team’s preparation, Sports247 reports.

Peseiro began by providing an update on the fitness of Napoli superstar Victor Osimhen, revealing that the reigning African Footballer of the Year was not included in Nigeria’s travelling squad to Bouaké due to health concerns.

“Up till now I cannot answer right because you know there’s a problem with his health,” Peseiro expressed, indicating uncertainty over Osimhen’s availability for the upcoming match.

However, despite Osimhen’s potential absence, Peseiro emphasized that he was not losing sleep over South Africa’s penalty-saving specialist, Ronwen Williams.

The Portuguese coach highlighted his strategic approach, focusing on neutralizing Bafana Bafana as a cohesive unit rather than individual threats.

“We observe the opponent, we want to beat them in the 90 minutes, 120 minutes, or penalties,” Peseiro stated, underlining his team’s comprehensive game plan.

In addressing concerns about his team’s status as favourites for the tie, Peseiro remained grounded and resolute in his approach.

“Favorite is not in our heads. If it enters our head, it will fly,” he remarked, emphasizing the importance of maintaining focus and humility.

Despite acknowledging the strength and ambition of their opponents, Peseiro reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the Super Eagles play a disciplined and proactive game, aiming to create scoring opportunities while preventing the opposition from doing the same.

Peseiro’s words reflect a manager who is fully aware of the challenges ahead but remains steadfast in his belief in the capabilities of his team.

With the semifinal showdown looming, his insights provide valuable reassurance to both players and fans alike, setting the stage for an intriguing and fiercely contested encounter between Nigeria and South Africa in the quest for AFCON glory.
