Former Super Eagles striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has warned that Nigeria must significantly raise their performance when they face Tunisia later today in their AFCON 2025 Group C encounter in Morocco.

Yakubu described the Tunisia match as a far more demanding test than the opening game against Tanzania, stressing that Nigeria cannot afford to repeat the same lapses.
“Tunisia will be a more difficult opponent,” Yakubu said. “The Super Eagles must be more solid and compact if they want a good result.”
The former Everton forward noted that Nigeria conceded chances against Tanzania and were fortunate not to be punished further, insisting that such errors could be costly against a tactically disciplined North African side.
“Against Tunisia, you won’t get away with those mistakes,” he added.
Yakubu urged the team to approach the game with patience and composure, particularly in possession, while maintaining defensive concentration throughout the match.
“They must stay patient, stay organised and play as a team,” he said.
Despite his caution, Yakubu called on Nigerian fans to avoid rushing to judgment on the squad, stressing that it is still early in the tournament.
“It’s too early to judge the boys. This is just the beginning,” he stated.
Yakubu believes that AFCON tournaments often test teams mentally as much as tactically and called for calm support from Nigerians as the competition progresses.
Nigeria face Tunisia later today in Fès, with the outcome expected to play a crucial role in shaping Group C and the Super Eagles’ AFCON 2025 ambitions.
