Uganda’s national team coach, Paul Put has raised the ante ahead of their clash with Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, as he declared that his side will play the game with full confidence.
Sports247 reports that the Belgian football tactician did not hold anything back, as he stressed that his players know they need maximum points in order to reach the round of 16.

Although Put admitted that the Super Eagles are a fearsome squad with top quality players, he reiterated that his players know what is expected of them in this fixture at Complexe Sportif de Fès.
The 69-year-old gaffer declared, “We are facing a very good team who were finalists in the last AFCON. They have also performed very well by getting all the points here.
“They have a team that is very strong, but we know what we need to do and how we have to play. We have to get a good result and we have no other solution if we want to stay in the competition.”
Put, who has previously handled the national teams of Gambia, Burkina Faso, Jordan, Kenya, Guinea and Congo, admitted that Tuesday’s game will be tough, but pointed out that his players gained confidence from their 1-1 draw with Tanzania.
He enthused, “I hope my players will give their best for this game. It’s going g to be hard and it’s going to be difficult but, in football, everything is possible.
“The players have gained more confidence, because they played a good game against Tanzania. We couldn’t win, but our performance gave us a good feeling.
“To face Nigeria, you have to come onto the field with a good feeling and confidence. If you are not confident, that is complicated.”
The gaffer, who handled Burkina Faso in their loss to Nigeria at the AFCON 2013 final in South Africa, enthused: “I hope my players will perform at a higher level than they did against Tanzania.”
