“I may not always have been a football fan,” she said, “but every time Nigeria plays, I see the incredible unity the game brings to our people. The passion, the energy, the togetherness — it’s something magical. And with the support TotalEnergies gives to football, I’ve come to love the game deeply.”

She added that the spirit of Nigeria becomes one whenever AFCON is on, describing the tournament as a moment that transcends rivalry and celebrates the collective pride of a nation.

“I want to appreciate this great organisation,” she continued. “Its support for football is one of the major reasons the sport comes alive for me and for millions across the country.”

The Lagos leg of the Trophy Tour began with a press conference at Eko Tower 2 before moving to a public viewing event at Marcellina’s Place, Ikeja, where fans, community leaders and media representatives celebrated the occasion.

For Olubumi Popoola-Modi, TotalEnergies’ partnership with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) represents more than sponsorship. It embodies a commitment to unity, empowerment and community connection — values that lie at the heart of both football and the company’s mission.

As the AFCON 2025 Trophy continues its journey across Africa, her message was clear: football is not only a game — it is a bridge that brings people together, reminding Nigerians and Africans alike of their shared strength and spirit.
