FC Lorient of France attacker, Tosin Aiyegun is thinking big at the Africa Cup of Nations, ahead of which he reeled out words of praise for his coach in Benin Republic’s national team, Gernot Rohr.
Sports247 reports that, though he was born in Nigeria, where his father hails from, Aiyegun opted to commit his international future to Benin Republic, which happens to be his mother’s nation of origin.

He declared emphatically that there has been no regret for him since taking that decision and hopes that a glorious outing at AFCON 2025 would justify the bold choice he made three years ago.
Now, with four goals in 19 appearances for The Cheetahs, Aiyegun is banking on the tactical acumen of Nigeria’s former head coach to see Benin Republic to a shock conquest of Africa.
Their latest quest for history comes just two months after they almost qualified for the FIFA World Cup and Aiyegun stressed that the giant leaps being enacted by Benin Republic are due to the Franco-German gaffer’s ingenuity.
Aiyegun eulogized with glee: “Gernot Rohr is one of the best coaches I have worked with. He tries to give more opportunities to the young players and I’m very happy.
“I hope we can achieve something all together with him. It’s football, anything can happen. We work hard. We have many young players. We just hope that we can go further at the 2025 AFCON.”
