Ogbu, who featured in Nigeria’s final Group C match against Uganda, said he remains committed to giving his best whether he starts or plays a supporting role from the bench. According to him, the priority is the team’s success rather than individual appearances.
The defender explained that the squad has continued to work hard in training, particularly on tightening up the backline after conceding goals during the group stage. He admitted that mistakes have crept into Nigeria’s defensive play but expressed confidence that the team has the quality and character to correct those issues.
Ogbu stressed that the technical crew has been addressing defensive organisation, communication and concentration as the Super Eagles prepare for the Round of 16 clash against Mozambique. He added that competition for places has helped push players to higher standards in training.
The Slavia Prague centre-back also highlighted the unity within the squad, noting that players understand the demands of knockout football where a single error can change the course of a match.
Nigeria face Mozambique on Monday, 5 January, in Fès, and Ogbu believes the Super Eagles are capable of fixing their defensive lapses and emerging stronger as they chase a fourth AFCON title.
