Speaking after the Super Eagles sealed top spot in Group C with a 3–1 victory over Uganda, Ndidi dismissed comparisons with Nigeria’s past AFCON campaigns, insisting that history has no bearing on the current team.
The midfielder emphasized that the squad is taking the tournament one match at a time, noting that the priority is maintaining concentration and consistency rather than dwelling on previous outcomes.
According to him, lessons have been learned from earlier competitions, but the team’s attention is firmly on what lies ahead.
Ndidi explained that finishing the group stage with maximum points was important for confidence, but warned that knockout football presents a different challenge altogether.
He said the players understand that every game from this point carries higher stakes and requires greater discipline.
The Super Eagles captain added that unity within the squad has been key to their strong showing so far, with players fully committed to the collective goal rather than individual achievements.
He praised the team’s mentality and urged continued focus as Nigeria targets a place in the latter stages of the competition.
Nigeria will face Mozambique in the Round of 16 on 5 January in Fès, and Ndidi insists the Super Eagles are ready to approach the encounter with full seriousness and respect for their opponents.
