Speaking after earning his 91st cap for the Super Eagles at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Simon revealed that his early focus was simply on maintaining his place in the team rather than counting appearances.

He said it was only recently he became aware of how close he was to the landmark, a realization that left him proud and grateful.

The Nantes forward explained that consistency, patience and hard work have been key to his longevity at international level.

He stressed that nothing came easily, noting that every call-up had to be earned through dedication and commitment.

Simon used the moment to send a message to upcoming Nigerian footballers, urging them to stay focused on development rather than quick rewards.

According to him, giving everything on and off the pitch is the only way to build a lasting career with the national team.

He also expressed satisfaction with the Super Eagles’ perfect group-stage performance at AFCON 2025, praising the unity and determination within the squad as Nigeria prepares for the knockout phase.

With the Super Eagles set to face Mozambique in the Round of 16 on 5 January in Fès, Simon believes the team’s mindset remains strong, focused and hungry for success as they push for continental glory.
