Host nation Morocco secured a narrow 1–0 victory over Tanzania to progress to the AFCON quarterfinals, in a match marked by VAR drama and a controversial late decision.
Morocco took the lead early in the contest when Ismael Saibari found the back of the net in the 15th minute, giving the Atlas Lions a deserved advantage and igniting celebrations among the home supporters but VAR check had also been conducted for the goal, which was ultimately disallowed, adding to the stop-start nature of the encounter.

The second half produced several tense moments. In the 64th minute, Brahim Díaz appeared to have doubled Morocco’s lead with a right-footed finish after a well-timed assist from Achraf Hakimi.
Tanzania grew into the match as it progressed and was left aggrieved when a penalty appeal was waved away by the referee — a decision that could have restored parity in the closing stages and changed the complexion of the game.
Despite the pressure, Morocco remained defensively solid to protect their slim lead and seal qualification to the last eight.
The victory sets up a highly anticipated quarter-final showdown against five-time champions Cameroon, as the hosts continue their pursuit of AFCON glory on home soil.
