AFCON 2025: Missed Chances Cost Angola as Egypt Hold On for Goalless Draw

Angola’s hopes of reaching the AFCON 2025 knockout stages were left in the balance after a frustrating 0-0 draw with already-qualified Egypt at the Grand Stade d’Agadir.

Needing a win to stay in control of their qualification fate, Angola dominated long spells of the contest but failed to convert their chances. Gaspar fired over early on, while Banza missed a gilt-edged opportunity just before halftime after combining well with Mabululu.

Egypt, who had already secured top spot in Group B and rotated their entire starting XI, remained compact and disciplined. Goalkeeper Mohamed Shobeir was rarely troubled, while Modesto’s superb late tackle denied Zizou at the other end.

Despite late pressure and half-chances for Dala, Ary Papel and Benson, Angola could not find a breakthrough.

The result leaves the Palancas Negras third in the group with two points, their hopes of progressing now dependent on results elsewhere, while Egypt advance comfortably as group winners.
