AFCON 2025: Iwobi Reveals His Burning Ambition To ‘Experience’ Winning Nations Cup

Fulham of England midfielder, Alex Iwobi has come out with a down-to-earth confession that he has a burning desire to ‘experience’ what it feels like winning the Africa Cup of Nations.

Sports247 gathered that the former Arsenal and Everton of England dazzler, who got both assists in Nigeria’s 2-1 victory over Tanzania on Tuesday, believes his ambition will come true this year.

He recalled how the team was well-celebrated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu when they returned with silver from the last edition in Cote d’Ivoire and reckoned that they would be treated like kings if they win this one.

The former England youth international and nephew of former Super Eagles captain, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha added that the glamour seen at each AFCON makes it something worthy of wanting to win.

Iwobi, who is 29 years old and got his 92nd Eagles’ cap against Tanzania, told BBC Newsbeat: “With AFCON, you get to celebrate Africa through football.

“I’ve heard from previous people that when they win it, it’s like everything just stops, you become like a king, you’re just royalty.
“Just going to the final we got treated like royalty anyway, so I can’t imagine winning it. It would just be crazy, but I want to experience that.”
