Speaking ahead of the last-eight encounter, Gusau stressed that the players are fully aware of the task before them and will not underestimate the North Africans. He noted that the technical crew has consistently reminded the squad that knockout football leaves no room for complacency.
“The players understand what is at stake now,” Gusau said. “This is the quarterfinal stage, and every opponent deserves maximum respect. There is no room for underrating any team at this level.”
The NFF president praised the Super Eagles’ performances so far in the competition, highlighting their attacking efficiency and improved discipline, while also acknowledging that tougher tests lie ahead as the tournament progresses.
Gusau added that the federation has full confidence in the technical crew and players to rise to the occasion, noting that the experience within the squad will be vital in managing the pressure of a high-profile knockout match.
Nigeria will face Algeria national football team in the quarterfinals on Saturday in Marrakesh, with a place in the AFCON semifinals on the line.
“Algeria are a strong and experienced side, but we believe in our team,” Gusau added. “If the players stay disciplined, focused and committed, they have everything it takes to qualify for the next round.”
As anticipation builds ahead of the Marrakesh showdown, Gusau’s message is clear: the Super Eagles must remain grounded, determined and fully prepared to take another step toward continental glory at AFCON 2025.
