AFCON 2025: Falcons’ Victory In WAFCON Final Will Motivate Super Eagles To Beat Morocco – Gusau

The president of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau has suggested that the Super Eagles can take the victory of their female counterparts at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2025) to boost their confidence and defeat Morocco on Wednesday.

Sports247 reports that Gusau took memories back to July 26th, 2025, when the Super Falcons defeated Morocco 3-2 in the WAFCON final and declared that the Eagles should be able to repeat that historic feat this Wednesday in Rabat.

With Nigeria set to battle the host country in the second semi-final of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, many observers are apprehensive of external factors, especially match officials, working against the Eagles.

Those fears are buoyed by allegations of biased refereeing raised by Tanzania in the round of 16 and Cameroon during their quarter-finals clash with The Atlas Lions, who critics believe are being aided to win the cup.

It was fifty years ago that Morocco won their only AFCON title but, with the kingdom nation having been a dutiful host for both continental and global competitions in recent time, speculation is rising that they will be ‘compensated’ with this year’s trophy.

That inference has escalated ahead of their clash with Nigeria on Wednesday, a match which many analysts believe will be too tough for Walid Regragui’s squad to surmount, based on the current top form of the three-time champions.

However, rather than join in raising dust ahead of the 9pm kick-off in Rabat, the NFF president recalled how Nigeria’s women’s squad, Super Falcons stormed back from two goals down to beat the hosts in the WAFCON 2025 final.

Gusau pointed out that all eyes across the world will be on this game, and he reiterated, “I do not have the same fears of the match officials being biased as some people have.

“I believe that the grass is always green and that the playing pitch is level. I do not see a situation in which the match officials will be working against any team’s interest.”

The NFF’s supremo added that the upcoming AFCON semi-final is just as sensitive as the WAFCON final, hence his verdict that the Super Eagles will get a level playing field as the Falcons had, en route to winning their historic 10th continental title last year.

Gusau recalled, “Last summer, we were here in Morocco, for the Women Africa Cup of Nations, and we played the host nation in the final, even coming from two goals behind to achieve victory.

“There is nothing to fear. This is the highest level of football on the African continent. The officials know that the whole world is watching, and they will not do anything untoward.”
