Reacting to Nigeria’s progression into the last eight, Ejiofor praised the team’s overall performance and attacking efficiency but pointed out that clearer communication, particularly in defence, will be vital as the level of opposition rises.
“The team has done well so far, no doubt,” Ejiofor said. “But defending is about communication. Defenders and midfielders must constantly talk to each other to avoid conceding cheap goals.”
The former centre-back explained that at the knockout stage, even small lapses can be decisive. He stressed that clear instructions, constant awareness and collective organisation will help the Super Eagles stay compact and composed when under pressure.
Ejiofor also highlighted the importance of leadership on the pitch, noting that experienced players must take responsibility in guiding teammates, especially during difficult moments in games.
Nigeria will face Algeria national football team in the quarterfinals on Saturday in Marrakesh, a fixture Ejiofor described as a true test of character and discipline.
“Algeria will ask questions,” he added. “Nigeria must be organised, communicate well and stay focused for the entire game. If they do that, they can handle the pressure and move on.”
As AFCON 2025 enters its business end, Ejiofor believes that improved communication and teamwork could be the key factors that push the Super Eagles into the semifinals.
