AFCON 2025: Dele-Bashiru Credits Team Cohesion for Super Eagles’ Strong Start

Speaking after the Super Eagles completed a perfect group-stage campaign, Dele-Bashiru explained that spending more time together in camp has helped players better grasp the tactical ideas of head coach Eric Chelle.

According to him, the increased familiarity has translated into better communication, structure and confidence on the pitch.

The midfielder noted that Nigeria’s ability to rotate players without losing balance is a clear sign of unity within the team.

He stressed that regardless of who starts or comes off the bench, everyone understands their role and responsibilities, which has been key to maintaining consistency across the three group matches.

Dele-Bashiru also highlighted the competitive atmosphere within the squad, saying healthy competition for places has pushed players to give their best in training and matches. He added that this internal drive has helped raise standards and sharpen performances.

While pleased with the team’s progress, the midfielder cautioned that the toughest part of the tournament lies ahead.

He emphasized that knockout football demands even greater concentration and discipline, urging the team to build on their positives while addressing areas that need improvement.

Nigeria will face Mozambique in the Round of 16 on 5 January in Fès, with Dele-Bashiru confident that the Super Eagles are well prepared, united and ready for the challenges ahead.
