Although he admitted that the array of top strikers in the Super Eagles makes it tough to get a starting shirt in the Nigerian squad, Dessers said being at AFCON 2025 alone is a dream come true for him.
The former Heracles Almelo of Netherlands and Rangers of Scotland top scorer enthused, “It’s been a dream of mine for many years to go to a big tournament with the Super Eagles.
“There’s been a lot of top quality strikers in the past years and mostly in the present team. Nigeria has so many good strikers who are doing well all over Europe.
“So, I have to be proud of being here in the first place. I know it’s due to the consistency that I showed during the past year in scoring goals.”
Though his father is a Belgian, Dessers opted to play for his mother’s country, Nigeria, a decision he is happy to have made and now hopes to take it a step further with an AFCON appearance added to his cap.
The mulatto attacker, who has three goals for the Super Eagles and hopes to get his 12th cap this Saturday against Tunisia, reiterated his delight in being at AFCON 2025, saying: “It’s a proud moment for me and my family.”
