AFCON 2025: Akor Adams Urges Super Eagles To improve Despite Tanzania Win

Super Eagles forward Akor Adams has stressed that Nigeria must continue to improve at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, despite opening their campaign with a 2–1 victory over Tanzania in Fès, Morocco.

Speaking ahead of Nigeria’s next Group C match against Tunisia, Adams said winning is the most important thing in tournament football but warned that performances must also improve as the competition progresses.

“The most important thing in a tournament is to win, no matter the level of performance,” Adams said. “But at the same time, we know we have to get better.”

The striker explained that AFCON is a competition where small details often decide outcomes, making improvement from game to game essential.

“You cannot play the same way every match and expect the same results. You have to keep improving,” he added.

Adams noted that the focus within the squad is now on accumulating as many points as possible in the group stage to secure qualification for the knockout rounds.

“Our target now is to get as many points as we can in the group and make it to the next rounds,” he stated.

Reflecting on the Tanzania game, Adams acknowledged that Nigeria created enough chances to score more goals but failed to fully capitalise on their dominance.

“We had chances to score more. If we had taken them, the game would have been more comfortable,” he said.

The forward also highlighted the importance of maintaining concentration throughout matches, pointing out that lapses can quickly change the direction of a game at tournament level.

“AFCON games can change very fast. You must stay focused from start to finish,” Adams explained.

Looking ahead to the clash with Tunisia national football team, Adams expects a tougher contest and believes Nigeria must raise their intensity.

“The next game will be harder, and we have to be ready,” he concluded.

With three points already secured, Adams’ message reflects a determined mindset within the Super Eagles camp — celebrate the win but push for better performances as Nigeria chase progress in Morocco.
