More accolades are rolling towards Fulham of England midfielder, Alex Iwobi, following his stunning performance against Mozambique at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Sports247 reports that Iwobi played arguably his best game ever for the Super Eagles in their remarkable 4-0 trouncing of Mozambique, and a flood of superlatives is still flowing in his direction afterwards.

Former Super Eagles’ captain, Sunday Ogochukwu Oliseh set the accolades rolling while serving as back-up commentator during the historic game on Monday, as he tagged Iwobi ‘the pre-assist specialist.’
Oliseh’s tag came after Iwobi provided defence splitting passes to Akor Adams and Ademola Lookman, who both went on to give assists on Nigeria’s first two goals in the round of 16 encounter at Complexe Sportif de Fès.
Akor’s assist helped Lokkman open scoring in the encounter, after which the Atalanta of Italy winger also became provider for Victor Osimhen to tap home his second goal of the ongoing tournament.
Oliseh, though, noted that Iwobi is ‘the silent creator of goals,’ as his passes and mobility in the Eagles midfield have become major talking points so far at AFCON 2025.
His view was mentioned in part by Tribal Football, as the online publication noted that Iwobi’s role has been almost immaculate in the Eagles’ ‘engine room’ since they opened their assault with a shaky 2-1 win over Tanzania.
A torrid 3-2 escape against Tunisia was followed by a 3-1 routine win against Uganda and capped by Monday’s surge, in which Lookman notched his third goal of the competition, followed by a brace from Osimhen and one for Akor.
As the top three take credit for Nigeria’s rain of goals at AFCON 2025, the opening salvo by Semi Ajayi, Wilfred Ndidi’s header versus Tunisia and two sizzlers by Raphael Onyedika (as well as Paul Onuachu’s slide in) against Uganda have been forgotten, while Iwobi’s contributions have mostly not been mentioned.
“Nigeria lead the goalscoring charts with an impressive 12 goals from their four games so far, with their potency in the final third making them genuine title contenders.
“Much will be made of the goals scored by Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, but it has arguably been the artistry of Alex Iwobi in midfield, creating chances, that has been most impressive,” the review by Tribal Football added.
