AFCON 2019: Ndidi thirsty for glory

Nigeria midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi says an improved performance at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt could be the perfect way for the Super Eagles to correct the mistakes made at the FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The 21-year-old believes that the Eagles have learnt from their group stage exit at Russia 2018 and would work towards improving ahead of the June 2019 Nations Cup in Egypt.

He said, “The World Cup is gone and we did not really go as far as we wanted but the Nations Cup is here and its another opportunity to actually do something great and correct the mistakes of the World Cup.”

He also stated his eagerness to help his country take back dominance on the continental stage.

“For me as a player I’m really looking forward to the tournament; we have a chance so we have to take it.”

Ndidi has for the past two seasons taken the Premier League by storm as the best tackler and with 37 matches already played, the Nigerian has made 141 tackles – with only Everton’s Idrissa Gueye closely trailing him with 135 tackles.

The 21-year old has bettered his return for last season where he had 138 tackles and has now moved into the Premier league’s top 150 all-time tacklers.
