Aduku Reveals Falconets’ Strategy That Floored Ghana Twice: ‘We Worked Together In One Spirit’

Nigeria’s female youth national team, Falconets’ coach, Moses Aduku has revealed that working together in one spirit but with changes in tactics helped his side overcome Ghana twice at the WAFU-B Girls U20 Cup in Benin Republic, Sports247 reports.

A 3-0 win over the Ghanaians on Tuesday not only confirmed the Falconets’ supremacy over their West Coast rivals but also took them to an unassailable nine points in the three-nation competition that is being played on a round-robin league format.

Goals by Janet Akeremkowei, Alaba Olabiyi and Ramotalahi Kareem gave Nigeria the day in Adjouhoun, thereby leaving Aduku grinning from ear to ear ahead of Wednesday’s formality last game versus Benin Republic.

He went on to narrate how his ability to successfully rotate his squad and the willingness of all 19 players in the team to adjust to various tactics helped him get the better of the Ghanaians.

The former youth international, who grew up in the Ajegunle area of Lagos, pointed out: “The format of the competition warranted us not to play the same line-up for all our four games. That wouldn’t be easy for the players, and they might get injured.

“So, definitely, we had to rest some players for each next game, and that gave us fresh legs to play with.”

Aduku then praised all his players for rising to the occasion when it mattered most, as none of them played with fear or malice over how he kept changing his starting line-up for each game.

“Those that came in showed that they were hungry to play. It also showed that we worked together as a team and in one spirit. Whoever plays gives their best for the country. All 19 players that came to this competition were ready to play,” Aduku averred.

He concluded by revealing that switching tactics in both matches against Ghana gave him victory with two different results – 3-1 and 3-0; while also silencing Benin 3-0 to garner nine goals for and only one against.

“We came with Plan-A and Plan-B. After the first game, another system was used for the next game. It was something we planned for and what we were able to carry out,” Aduku posited gleefully.
