Adeyemi Hails Broad City’s Big Win, Shifts Focus to Ikorodu City Test

Head coach of Broad City FC, Kazeem Adeyemi, has expressed satisfaction following his side’s emphatic 5–2 victory over Mavlon FC in the ongoing Jagaban Cup 2026, while insisting there is still significant room for improvement.

Speaking after the Matchday 1 encounter at the National Stadium Surulere, Adeyemi described the result as encouraging but maintained that his team remains a work in progress.

“I am excited about the win, but there are still things we can work on. There is room for improvement, and this team is still developing,” he said.

Broad City delivered one of the standout performances of the opening round, with Ayomide Bakare stealing the spotlight after scoring the first hat-trick of the tournament. However, the forward was substituted late in the game, a move the coach confirmed was strategic.

“Yes, we need our best legs ready for the next match. They have to rest ahead of subsequent games,”

Adeyemi explained, hinting at careful squad management in the tightly scheduled competition.

Attention now shifts to a high-profile Matchday 2 clash against Ikorodu City FC, one of the early favourites in the tournament. Adeyemi acknowledged the challenge ahead but remains optimistic about his team’s chances.

“They are a big team, and the players are aware of that. We will build on today’s performance, although we have limited time to prepare.”

Beyond immediate results, the Broad City coach also highlighted the broader significance of the Jagaban Cup and similar grassroots competitions in Lagos, noting their long-standing impact on youth development.

“The Jagaban Cup and Supremacy Cup didn’t just start today. They’ve always been a strong platform for young talents, and Broad City has benefited greatly, with several players progressing through these competitions.”

With momentum on their side and a rising star in Bakare, Broad City FC head into their next fixture with confidence, but fully aware that sterner tests lie ahead in their pursuit of silverware.
