Adesokan Sets Target For Tokyo 2020 Olympics

National female badminton star, Dorcas Adesokan has set her sight on representing Nigeria at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

Sports247.ng can report that Adesokan is thinking big, after excelling on the home front for the better part of 2018.

Consequently, Adesokan says she will redouble her efforts and training so that she will not only qualify for Tokyo 2020, but also go there to do well.

While thanking the board of the Badminton Federation of Nigerian (BFN) for giving her the opportunity to attend international competitions, she called for support towards realizing her ambition of playing at the 2020 Olympics.

She added that she goes into every tournament to winning, after putting in extra effort to ensure that results go her way.

After winning the Rivers Governors National Badminton Championship in Port Harcourt, Adesokan said her focus is to be among the best 70 players in Tokyo.

Adesokan disclosed that she had to play over 10 international competitions this year in order to amass enough points that would improve her global status.

She added: “My ambition is to play at the Olympics and that mean I have to work hard and I attend over 10 international competitions.

“I will also have to win most of these competitions. I am currently ranked 108 in the world and I have to be among the best 70 to play in Tokyo.

“As a professional, I work hard and go into tournaments with a strong desire to win. Sometimes winning tournaments can be very difficult.

“Just like at the just concluded Rivers Governor’s Cup, where I had to dig deep to win the final game against Deborah Ukeh.”
