Ademola Lookman Opens Season’s Account as Atalanta Hold AC Milan to Draw

Ademola Lookman ended his five-month goal drought on Sunday, scoring a crucial equalizer for Atalanta in their 1-1 Serie A draw against AC Milan.

The Super Eagles forward, restored to Atalanta’s starting lineup after a challenging summer period, struck in the 35th minute to cancel out Samuel Ricci’s early opener.

Lookman reacted sharply to a clever pass from Mario Pašalić, smashing his effort high into the roof of the net to level the contest at the Gewiss Stadium.

Ricci had earlier given Milan the lead in the fourth minute with a composed finish after a swift attacking move, but Atalanta responded with sustained pressure that paid off before halftime. Lookman’s goal, his first of the 2025/26 campaign, ended a seven-match barren run and reaffirmed his importance to Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.

The 27-year-old Nigerian international last found the back of the net in May 2025 against AS Roma, concluding a remarkable season where he scored 20 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions.

His latest strike not only boosted Atalanta’s morale but also highlighted his determination to rediscover top form after summer transfer speculation.

Since joining from RB Leipzig, Lookman has grown into one of Atalanta’s most reliable attacking threats, netting 53 goals in 123 appearances.

His consistent performances have earned him widespread recognition, including the prestigious CAF Player of the Year award, further solidifying his reputation as one of Africa’s top footballers.

The hard-fought draw leaves Atalanta sixth in the Serie A standings with 13 points from nine matches.

Gasperini’s men will now turn their attention to their next league fixture against Udinese, as they aim to climb further up the table and maintain their push for European qualification.
