Sports247 reports that the Copa del Rey quarter-final fixture versus Real Betis provided an opportunity for Lookman to score on his debut for the third club in succession, while also notching his 100th career goal.
The 28-year-old winger also became the first player born in England to score in the top-4 leagues of Europe – English Premier League, Serie of Italy, Bundesliga of Germany and now La Liga of Spain.
Lookman, who was later named man of the match, scored in the 37th-minute and then provided an assist in the match, which came just three days after he sealed a €35m transfer to Atletico from Atalanta of Italy.
The 2024 African Footballer of The Year, hit target eight minutes before half-time, after shifting Pablo Barrios’ pass to his right foot, cutting inside two defenders and squeezing a shot past Adrian to finish a lightning counter-attack.
It was his 100th career goal on his debut for his seventh club, with memories of how he did the same with RB Leipzig of Germany and Atalanta, even as he helped Atleti move into the semi-final of a competition they have not won in 12 years.
