Adedeji Oluwafemi Appointed Honorary Football Coach by Ondo State Sports Council

The Ondo State Sports Council has appointed football coach Adedeji Oluwafemi as an Honorary Staff (Football Coach), recognising his commitment and dedication to the development of grassroots football in the state.

The appointment was conveyed in an official letter dated October 5, 2026, and signed by Adeiyi Olabimi, for the General Manager of the Ondo State Sports Council.

According to the letter, the Council approved Adedeji’s appointment as an honorary member of staff in the football coaching department.

The Council stated that the appointment was hinged on his commitment and dedication to the development of grassroots football in Ondo State, while noting that the date for the commencement of any financial benefits attached to the appointment would be determined by the Sports Council.

Adedeji brings coaching and playing experience to the new role. Sports247 previously reported that the Nigerian coach has worked with Sunshine Stars FC and Gbaja FA in Lagos, while also holding coaching certifications in football, fitness and conditioning from the National Institute for Sports (NIS).

The coach also previously featured as a player for Katsina United FC, Sunshine Stars FC and Rising Stars FC before progressing into coaching and player development.

Reacting to the appointment, Adedeji expressed gratitude to the Ondo State Sports Council, describing the new role as both an honour and a responsibility to contribute more meaningfully to football development in the state.

“I am deeply grateful to the Ondo State Sports Council for finding me worthy of this appointment. I see it not just as recognition, but as a responsibility to contribute my experience and knowledge to the development of football in Ondo State.

“Grassroots development is very important because that is where the next generation of footballers, coaches and administrators will emerge. I am committed to working with the Council, other coaches and stakeholders to identify, nurture and develop young talents across the state.

“I appreciate the confidence in me, and I will do my best to justify the trust. My goal is to contribute to building a stronger football structure that gives talented young players the opportunity to develop and ultimately compete at higher levels.”

The appointment is expected to further strengthen Adedeji’s involvement in grassroots football development in Ondo State, particularly in the identification and nurturing of young talents.

With his previous playing and coaching experience, coupled with his football education at the National Institute for Sports, Adedeji is expected to bring a combination of technical knowledge and practical experience to the role.

His appointment also marks another step in his transition from playing and coaching into a broader role focused on football development.
