Abuja 2027 Preparations Accelerate As LOC Chairman Abari Meets NSC Leadership

The road to the 2nd African School Games, Abuja 2027, gathered renewed momentum as Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Mr. Lekan Abari, met with top officials of the National Sports Commission (NSC) to harmonize strategies and fast-track preparations for the continent’s premier youth multi-sport event.

At the high-level meeting in Abuja, Mr. Abari was received by NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and the Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade, with discussions centered on timelines, infrastructural upgrades, and operational frameworks required to deliver a world-class Games when Nigeria hosts Africa in 2027.

Hon. Olopade reaffirmed the NSC’s unwavering commitment to staging a championship that reflects Nigeria’s leadership in sports development.

“The African School Games represent the future of youth sports on the continent, and Nigeria is ready to lead from the front,” the DG stated.

“The NSC will provide every necessary support to the LOC to ensure that Abuja 2027 sets a new benchmark for excellence, participation, and continental unity.”

In his remarks, LOC Chairman Lekan Abari expressed confidence in Nigeria’s ability to host an unforgettable second edition of the Games, assuring that the LOC is ready to transition from planning to full execution.

“Abuja 2027 will be a moment of pride for Nigeria — a stage to showcase our hospitality, unity, and the extraordinary potential of our young athletes,” he said. “With the inauguration now behind us, we will hit the ground running to deliver Games that every Nigerian and every African child can be proud of.”

A seasoned administrator with an impressive footprint in both public and private sectors, Abari is widely respected for his leadership style, strategic insight, and operational excellence.

His recent tenure as Chairman of the Oyo State Gaming Board earned him a reputation as a result-driven, people-focused executive.

Abari is an alumnus of Westminster College, where he earned a Diploma in Information Technology, and holds a degree from the University of Lagos.
