ABUJA 2020: NIGERIA SWEEP MEDALS ON DAY 1

The para power lifting world cup kicked started yesterday in Abuja with the wife of the president, Aisha Buhari opening the ceremony.
As expected, team Nigeria with their array of stars swept a whopping 13 medals on day 1 of the world cup in 8 different categories.

Amarachi Okoronkwo began the medal party for the Nigerians with a bronze medal win, with Hellen Kariuki of Kenya and Lara Aparecida winning the gold and silver medals respectively in the Senior Women’s Up to 41kg.

It was a hat trick of wins for team Nigeria in the Senior-Women’s Up to 45kg as Latifat Tijani (112kg), Loveth Abokin (100kg) and Seun Solomon (96kg) swept the medals taking team Nigeria’s medals tally to 4.

Egypt’s Rehab Ahmed who is a Paralympic medalist and world champion won gold in the senior women’s up to 50kg category with a weight of 115kg. Nigeria’s Rukayat Ajiboye and Franca Anigbogu both of 105kg got silver and bronze medals respectively.

Later in the day, Alake Ifeoluwa won gold in the senior women’s up to 55kg with weight carrying up to 85kg.

In the Senior Women’s Up to 61kg, Nigeria added more medals with Ejike Lucy (135kg) and Komo Maria (100kg) winning gold and bronze medals respectively while Egypt’s Korany Fatma (116kg) won silver medal.

Olaitan Ibrahim carried 125kg to win gold while Fatmar Omar 121kg and Chinwendu Oriemezie 121kg won silver and bronze respectively in the senior women’s up to 67kg.

Muhammed Gbadamosi carried 135kg to silver medal in the senior men’s up to 49kg category while the last event of the day saw Ronald Ezuruike win gold after carrying 170kg in the men’s up to 54kg category.
