Abubakar delivered an extraordinary display, scoring 10 goals in GAITER FC’s emphatic 24–0 victory over Cosmos FC at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta.

The remarkable feat immediately caught attention, prompting Ikorodu City’s director, Olawale Quadri, to offer the prolific striker a chance to prove himself at Nigeria’s top-flight level.

The forward’s numbers since joining GAITER FC underline his consistency and attacking quality. In just 31 appearances, Abubakar has recorded an impressive 54 goal contributions—scoring 40 goals and providing 14 assists.

Such productivity highlights a player with both finishing ability and creative influence in the final third.

His latest performance also etched his name into the record books. Abubakar becomes the first African player to score 10 goals in an official match, the first to achieve the feat in an Ogun State FA competition, and the first to register a “hat-trick of hat-tricks” (nine goals) on his debut in the tournament.

He further made history by scoring hat-tricks in both halves of a single match—an unprecedented milestone in the competition.

Beyond the statistics, his rise underscores the growing importance of visibility and documentation at the grassroots level.

In an era where performances can quickly gain traction through digital platforms, Abubakar’s breakthrough serves as a reminder of the power of proper record-keeping and exposure.

For Ikorodu City, the trial represents an opportunity to assess a raw but highly productive talent. For Abubakar, it is a potential stepping stone into professional football, where he will aim to translate his prolific grassroots form onto a bigger stage.

As his story continues to gain attention, the young striker’s journey reflects both the depth of talent in Nigerian grassroots football and the possibilities that emerge when performance meets opportunity.
