Abia U-21 Female Football Kicks Off Friday

The maiden edition of the Abia State Under 21Female Inter Local Government Football Competition rolls off the ground on Friday 13th November 2020 at the Umuahia Township Stadium with the wife of the state governor, Deaconess Nkechi Ikpeazu, expected to perform the kickoff.

Umuahia North Local Government Under 21 female football team are billed to slug it with their neighbors, Umuahia south after what promises to be a colorful opening ceremony that will among others feature March past by the participating 17 local government Areas.

The state Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Chief Emeka George Ikwuagwu on Monday met with local government sports organising secretaries at his office to make sure nothing is left to chance for a successful competition.

Meanwhile, each local government is to be issued with 25 pairs of jerseys as donated by Professor Greg Ibeh for the competition.
After the kick-off on Friday, other sports zones will commence theirs on Saturday from where six zonal qualifiers will emerge to compete at the state level.

It would be recalled that the Commissioners for Youth and Sports Development, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and Women Affairs and Social Development met with wives of TC Chairmen recently to solicit their involvement in packaging their various local government teams and encourage their participation in the tournament.
