Abia State has secured qualification for the rugby event at the 2025 National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, with both the male and female teams booking their spots from the Southeast zonal elimination in Enugu.

The female team picked up an automatic slot as the only side representing the five eastern states, while the male team earned their place the hard way, defeating hosts Enugu State and Imo State on penalties to emerge overall winners of the zone.
With this result, Abia’s male and female rugby teams will fly the state’s flag at the National Youth Games, scheduled to hold in Asaba from August 26 to September 1, 2025.
