The Nigerian sports community has been thrown into mourning following the passing of the President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), Engr. Ifedayo Akindoju.
He died this morning, October 2, 2025, at Nizamiya Hospital in Abuja.
Reacting to the sad news, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeyinka Adeboye, expressed deep grief and described Akindoju’s death as a monumental loss to Nigerian sports.

“Engr. Akindoju’s death is a monumental loss to grassroots sports development in Nigeria. He was a man who believed that true growth in sports could only come from the grassroots, and he worked tirelessly to make that a reality. His passing has left a vacuum that will be hard to fill,” Adeboye said.
Hon. Adeboye noted that Akindoju’s passion for developing the game of tennis from the grassroots level aligned strongly with the Federal Government’s vision of discovering and nurturing young talents across the nation.
He further assured the bereaved family of his support and the backing of his office during this painful time.
“Our prayers are with his family in this painful moment. On behalf of the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, I extend our deepest condolences. We will continue to uphold his vision and ensure his legacy lives on.”
Engr. Ifedayo Akindoju will be remembered as a gentleman administrator whose humility, leadership, and dedication brought remarkable growth to Nigerian tennis.
His sudden death leaves a painful void, but his legacy will continue to inspire sports administrators and young athletes for years to come.
