Following Nigeria’s recent struggles on the international stage, Oliseh believes urgent action is required to prevent further decline.
“That would be disastrous,” he said, stressing the gravity of the situation.
For the former captain, the solution lies in immediate and deliberate restructuring of the national team.
He called for a comprehensive overhaul of the squad, with a particular focus on integrating younger players alongside experienced stars.
“We must rebuild now,” he emphasized.
Oliseh pointed out that while Nigeria continues to produce world-class talents such as Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, individual quality alone is not enough to guarantee success.
“Talent is not enough,” he implied.
According to him, what Nigeria lacks is a clear, long-term system that supports player development, team cohesion, and strategic planning.
Without such a structure, he warned, even the most talented squads will struggle to achieve consistent results.
Oliseh also highlighted the issue of an aging squad, noting that some players may not be at their peak by the next World Cup cycle.
This makes it essential to begin integrating younger talents now, ensuring continuity and readiness for future competitions.
“We cannot wait,” he stressed.
His comments add urgency to the ongoing conversation about the direction of Nigerian football, with many stakeholders calling for reforms at both administrative and technical levels.
For Oliseh, the message is clear.
The time for gradual change has passed.
What is needed now is decisive action.
Because for a nation with Nigeria’s football pedigree, another World Cup absence would not just be disappointing.
It would be damaging.
