The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeyinka Anthony Adeboye, has congratulated Mr. Samson Adamu on his appointment as Acting Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), describing it as a historic milestone for Nigeria and African football administration.

Adamu’s appointment, ratified on Sunday, March 29, 2026, marks the first time in over 70 years that a Nigerian will occupy the highly influential position within CAF.
Reacting to the development, Adeboye described the appointment as a reflection of Nigeria’s growing reputation in global sports governance and a testament to Adamu’s competence and professionalism.
“This is a proud moment for Nigeria and a significant step forward for African football. Samson Adamu’s appointment is well deserved and speaks to his hard work, experience, and outstanding contributions to the development of the game on the continent.”
The presidential aide noted that Adamu’s journey within CAF, particularly his role in managing major tournaments and events, has prepared him for the responsibilities of the new office.
“He has consistently demonstrated excellence in football administration, especially in the organization and delivery of major competitions. This new role is a natural progression for someone who has shown such high level of capacity and commitment.”
