LAB Memorial Carnival Season 3: Newcastle FC Assistant Coach Ogunbode Lookman Dismayed by Heavy Defeat

In a disappointing start to the LAB Memorial Football Carnival, Newcastle FC suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat at the hands of Right Vision Choice FC.

The team’s assistant coach, Ogunbode Lookman, who had to step in due to the head coach’s ill health, expressed his dismay at the result.

“It’s quite embarrassing,” Lookman admitted, “Our plan initially was to give a good performance… but on getting to the field I was so surprised to see what my guys are doing to us.” He suggested that a lack of teamwork and adherence to instructions may have contributed to the defeat. “They did not play as a team, they did not play to instructions, everybody was just playing for themselves,” he said.

Despite the setback, Lookman remained optimistic about the team’s future. “Now it has happened. We move on as a team. We go back to the house, check our errors, then try to do some corrections so that we can improve in all areas,” he stated. He also highlighted his own experience as a former player and captain of the team, and his hopes of using this experience to guide the team.

Reflecting on their past performance, Lookman revealed that the team had also been eliminated in the first stage of the previous edition of the competition. However, he saw the current match as an opportunity for redemption and learning. “This is a return match. This guys we played them last season, and this is an opportunity to do our corrections,” he said.

Despite the heavy loss, Newcastle FC and their assistant coach Lookman are determined to learn from their mistakes and come back stronger in the next edition of the LAB Memorial Football Competition.
