Remo Stars’ head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, shared his insights with the press following his team’s hard-fought 0-0 draw against Abia Warriors in the NPFL.
Reflecting on the match, Ogunmodede highlighted the tactical approach adopted by both teams, acknowledging Abia Warriors’ prowess in transitioning to attack while emphasizing Remo Stars’ improved defensive strategy compared to their previous encounter.
“We came with a plan for better defending than what we had in the first leg,” Ogunmodede remarked. “We are aware of what we are coming to meet. We know the young boys like how they are going to match our intensity. But the game could go either way and we’re lucky we shared the points.”

Addressing the familiarity of Aba Stadium, where Remo Stars secured three points in their last visit, Ogunmodede expressed his fondness for the pitch and the advantage it offers his team. He attributed their comfort on the field to the similarity of the turf to their home ground in Owerri, noting that the confidence gained from their unbeaten record at Aba Stadium further bolsters their performance.
When questioned about the absence of Samad Qadiri from the team, Ogunmodede revealed that the player had secured a deal in Europe, necessitating his departure from the squad. Despite this setback, Ogunmodede remained optimistic, highlighting the addition of experienced player Ossy Martins to the team. While Martins had opportunities to score during the match, Ogunmodede acknowledged the need for him to acclimate to the team’s philosophy gradually.
“It’s like the beginning of the season now, the second stanza, the players need to come up with their gauge gradually,” Ogunmodede explained. “It’s a gradual thing. I understand. And I think he needs more time to synergize with our philosophy, nevertheless, it’s a quality addition for us.”
Ogunmodede remained pragmatic about his team’s performance, recognizing both the challenges faced and the potential for improvement as the season progresses as they sit at the top of the league with 36 point leading the second position team Lobi Stars, on goal difference
