Following Victor Osimhen’s triumphant win at the 2023 CAF Awards, former Nigerian goalkeeper Emeka Amadi shared his thoughts on the prolific striker’s journey and the significance of achieving such a prestigious accolade.
“Luckily, yesterday I spoke with him, I chatted with him, and I wished him good luck. I told him something that he should remember vividly, one time that we were in Cyprus when we were doing one of our classes,” Amadi began.

Recalling an inspirational moment with coach Emmanuel Amunike, Amadi highlighted the mentor’s words to the players, urging them to aspire to win the African Footballer of the Year award.
“I even reminded Victor Osimhen yesterday. I said, ‘You remember your coach said so.’ And it is going to be something spiritual, an honour for you that you are going to win it, and he will be there to receive you. It is something that you can be proud of and happy,” Amadi emphasized.

Expressing his happiness at being part of Osimhen’s journey, Amadi praised the energetic and deadly striker.
He seized the opportunity to offer advice to other young players, encouraging them to strive hard, emphasizing that life is not easy, but hard work can lead to the accomplishment of dreams.
“No cross, no crown. Victor knows this saying and he uses it all the time. If you ask, he’ll tell you, ‘No cross, no crown.’
That is my advice to the young lads in Nigeria,” Amadi concluded, encapsulating the spirit of determination and hard work that has defined Osimhen’s success.
