Burkina Faso has advanced to the final of the WAFU B U-17 tournament, where they will meet Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets on Friday.
Burkina Faso defeated host Ghana 1-0 in the second semi-final on Tuesday, thanks to a second half go from Ousamane Camara. Camara converted from the spot in the 64th minute after his side were awarded a penalty.
With the result, Les Étalons will face Nigeria in the final on Friday, June 24. Both nations are guaranteed a place in next year’s U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Algeria.
Earlier on, the Golden Eaglets overcame Cote d’Ivoire to book their place in the final. Nduka Ugbade’s charges came from a 1-0 deficit to defeat the Ivorians 3-1.
Yan Diomandi had given The Little Elephants the lead just two minutes into the game from the penalty spot. Two free-kicks from Emmanuel Michael gave Nigeria a 2-1 lead heading into the break. Abubakar Abdullahi added Nigeria’s third in the 80th minute with a header.
Minister of Youth and Sports Development Sunday Dare commended the team for their efforts and urged them to bring the trophy home. He said:
“I congratulate you for doing the most difficult part of the job in such a commanding manner. I salute your fighting spirit and determination. I commend your coaches, officials and the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) for laying the foundation for this success.
“I urge you to finish this assignment the same way your seniors, the Flying Eagles did in Niamey, Niger Republic last month. Go and win the final. I know you can do it.”
