Ahmed Musa on Tuesday made a sensational return to Kano Pillars on a short-term deal through to the end of the 2020/21 NPFL season.
Musa had been a free agent since parting ways with Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr in October 2020.
His decision to return to the Nigerian topflight where he made his professional breakthrough with the now-defunct JUTH FC has drawn a lot of praise from the country’s football audience.
“Anything that improves the image of Nigerian football is something that I strive to embark on and Kano Pillars holds a special place in my heart,” the 28-year-old explained on his decision to return home.
Having one of Nigeria’s most successful players of recent times and the current Super Eagles captain lining out for a traditional local giant is a huge plus to Nigerian football.
Musa’s presence will indeed boost the image and interest of the nation’s football league.
It will also open the door to more foreign-based Nigerian stars returning back home to wind down their careers with local clubs, a trend that is most common with South American players.
Following Musa’s transfer, John Ogu hinted he is open to interested NPFL clubs and he could possibly follow suit.
For the time being, Musa will get to play competitive football to be in top shape for a potential transfer to a European side in the summer.
His addition to a Kano Pillars side that currently sit second in the NPFL table on goal difference after 19 matches will serve as a massive raise to the club in all departments.
All in all, Musa’s transfer to the Sai Masu Gida is a win-win situation for all parties involved.
