Bayelsa Queens FC of Yenagoa still kept their top spot after losing the Nigeria Women Football League NWFL match-day five by one goal to nil at the Agbor Township Stadium.
The Gloryland Girls kicked off the game with high intensity and pegging their host to their own half. But the poor nature of the Agbor Township Stadium did not allow for the free flow of the ball.
The host responded with some flowery of attacks through their left-wing attacker which paid off in the 26th minutes when a Mamuzo’s freekick was scrambled home by Peace Abey with Bayelsa Queens Goalkeeper Oyinyechukwu Okeke injured in the process.
The Yenagoa based team increased the tempo in the second half. But Center Referee Mariam Usman from Kogi was bent on frustrating any attempt with her unnecessary calls.
The best chance came in the 76th minutes when Anjor Mary had only the goalkeeper to beat but shot tamely. Defender Esther Udegbe also had a glorious opportunity when she headed into the hands of the keeper.
Coach of Delta Queens David Oche stated that the victory was a motivating point and that the rebuilding process is on for his team and also his opponent Bayelsa Queens gave them a good match.
On his part, Technical Adviser of Bayelsa Queens Moses Aduku stated that the poor officiating was a big factor in deciding the outcome of the game. He also bemoans the poor turf of the Agbor Township Stadium as a bad advertisement of the NWFL.
Bayelsa Queens will next take on Edo Queens on matchday 6 on Wednesday 17th February at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.
