The president of the Nigerian Curling Federation (NCF) President, Mr. Demola Daniel has been confident ahead of the state of preparedness of his curlers ahead of the 2022 Winter Olympic GAMES (BEIJING 2022) .
This multi-sport event is scheduled to hold from February 4th to 20th, 2022 in the ancient city of Beijing and towns in the neighboring Hebei province all in China.
Mr. Daniel stated, “Coming to the winter Olympics of which we (Nigeria) are part of now because our games are under the winter Olympics, team Nigeria Curling is fully prepared.”
“During the lock down, we have been on ZOOM meetings, strategizing, watching videos
clips of other strong opponent countries so we are prepared and fully ready.”
Recall, in the 2022 Winter Olympic games, the 109 ice events will kick off in three competition zones of central Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou.
Beijing will host all the ice events (curling, ice hockey and skating) and four snow events (snowboard big air and freestyle skiing big air, men’s and Women’s)
On Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2022 Winter Olympic games, the NCF president said, “We are marching forward towards getting our qualification for the 2022 Winter Olympic games.”
“We were about playing some tune up games within this year if the COVID issue is down, we are due to play about three more games which include the World Mixed Curling Championship in Aberdeen, Scotland (10th to 17th October, 2020), Asia Pacific Curling in Wakkanai, Japan (31st October to 6th November, 2020) and Curling Championship in Isrum Turkey 5th to 12th December, 2022)”
Mr. Daniel concluded,”We are working hard to put our country’s name on the world’s map again.”
