Heartland FC of Owerri have received a vote of confidence from one of their former captains, Chinedu Efugh, ahead of their first match of the new season in the second-tier Nigeria National League (NNL).
Sports247 reports that, as The Naze Millionaires prepare to host Crown FC of Ogbomosho in the season’s official opening match at Dan Anyiam Stadium this Sunday, Efugh believes the squad is good enough to start on a winning note.
Efugh, who is now a member of the team’s technical crew, admitted that Heartland have faced some torrid days in recent months, but stressed that the coaches and players are up to the task of putting the club back to where it used to be.
He then charged the players to bring back the winning mentality that the Owerri-based outfit was known for in their glorious past, especially in his days as captain during the 2011/2012 season, as well as when they won the FA Cup back-to-back.
The former captain also recounted how Heartland won five titles in two years through dint of hard work, dedication, determination, total discipline from every member of the team, collective efforts and commitment to the task of further uplifting the club’s image.
“It was a thing of joy. It wasn’t easy. It was hard work and determination. That’s why we want players of our generation to take over the responsibility of restoring Heartland’s winning tradition. We want them to bring back the unity, commitment and team spirit that characterised our successful era,” Efugh asserted.
He then commended the team’s current technical manager, Emmanuel Amuneke for making a lot of sacrifices for the team as well as for how he keeps putting in a lot of dedication to duty and commitment towards continued growth for the club.
“With Amuneke’s leadership, collective determination and the right team spirit, we can make the 2026/2027 NNL season a successful one for Heartland. To do that, we also need encouragement from our supporters across the world.
“We want them to continue praying for the team and always believe in our ambition. Let them just pray for us and keep believing in what we can do. We’re going to make them proud,” Efugh assured.
Sports247 reports further that the major task ahead of The Naze Millionaires’ crew headed by Amuneke is to gain promotion back to the top-flight Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) at the end of this season, as they aim for a return to Heartland’s glorious past.
