The immediate past president of the Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF), Engineer Ahmadu Musa Kida, has given himself excellent marks for what he described as eight years of remarkable achievements during his tenure at the helm of affairs.
Sports247 reports that, speaking in the wake of the emergence of Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) chairman, Dr Abubakar Abdullahi, as NBBF’s new supremo, Kida reflected on his years of winning for Nigerian basketball in the boardroom and on the court.
Kida also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the unflinching support he got from the highest authority in Nigeria, especially in providing an enabling environment that allowed the country’s basketball endeavours to flourish locally, in Africa and the world.
The basketball stalwart and top shot in the Nigerian petroleum sector stated his gratitude in a letter he personally addressed to President Tinubu, whom he also praised for solid encouragement during the NBBF’s past administration.
He then reeled out specific feats pulled off by the NBBF under his charge, among which are historic victories for the female national team, D’Tigress, giant strides in the acquisition of sponsors for various levels of the game and improvements that have been enacted in the domestic league.
“Together, we witnessed D’Tigress claim five consecutive AfroBasket titles, establishing Nigeria as the undisputed queen of African basketball. Together, we celebrated a historic Olympic quarter-final appearance in Tokyo and an unforgettable victory over Team USA.
“Together, we put Africa firmly on the world basketball map. These achievements belong not to any individual, but to every stakeholder who believed in the vision: our dedicated athletes who sacrificed so much, our coaches and technical staff who worked tirelessly, the state basketball associations who nurtured talent at the grassroots, and the countless fans whose support carried us through difficult moments.
“Over the past eight years, we rebuilt the NBBF Premier League into a competitive, well-structured championship that runs on a predictable calendar. Both the men’s and women’s divisions now feature clubs from across the federation competing at a level that genuinely prepares our athletes for continental and international assignments.
“Sponsorship must grow. But the foundation for a thriving domestic basketball ecosystem now exists where, eight years ago, there was uncertainty. The incoming board inherits a league that is alive, competitive, and capable of becoming one of Africa’s finest,” Kida stated at length.
Sports247 reports further that Kida also congratulated the new president and NBBF board members, while wishing them success as they take over the federation’s mantle and urged all stakeholders to grant them the same support they gave his administration.
