Warri Wolves head coach Hassan Abdallah has revealed that his team’s impressive goalless draw against nine-time Nigerian league champions Enyimba FC in Aba was the result of careful preparation, tactical discipline and a deliberate approach to controlling possession.
Sports247 reports that the Seasiders secured a valuable away point following their 0-0 stalemate against the People’s Elephant in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 9 encounter.
Speaking during his post-match interview in Aba, Abdallah expressed satisfaction with the result, explaining that his players successfully implemented the strategy developed during training.
The Warri Wolves coach acknowledged the importance of the result, particularly against a traditional powerhouse of Nigerian football.
“We are happy with the draw, and we give thanks to God. We planned for this, and it happened,” Abdallah said.
His comments suggested that Warri Wolves approached the encounter with a clear tactical objective rather than relying solely on defensive resistance.
Despite facing Enyimba away from home, the visitors demonstrated determination to compete and frustrate their opponents. For Abdallah, the outcome represented a reward for the players’ commitment to their preparation.
‘We Kept the Ball Right From Kickoff’
Explaining his team’s approach, Abdallah revealed that ball retention formed an important part of their preparations.
“Right from kickoff, we kept the ball. We worked on that in training, and I am familiar with the field,” he explained.
The coach’s familiarity with the playing surface in Aba appeared to influence his tactical planning. Rather than allowing Enyimba to dictate proceedings, Warri Wolves sought to maintain possession and remain competitive throughout the encounter.
Abdallah’s emphasis on preparation highlighted the importance of understanding the conditions and developing a suitable approach before facing difficult opposition.
‘We Wanted All Three Points’
Although satisfied with the draw, Abdallah insisted that Warri Wolves had travelled to Aba with ambitions of securing victory.
“All three points were the target, but it was okay that we settled for a point, considering that it was an away point,” he stated.
The coach’s remarks reflected the team’s determination to compete for maximum points regardless of the venue.
However, he acknowledged that leaving Aba without defeat represented a positive outcome. For Warri Wolves, securing points away from home could prove valuable as the season progresses.
The result extended Enyimba’s frustration in front of goal, with the People’s Elephant unable to find a breakthrough against their visitors.
Despite their home advantage, the nine-time Nigerian champions were forced to settle for a share of the points. Warri Wolves, meanwhile, demonstrated the discipline required to protect their clean sheet and return home with something to show for their efforts.
The stalemate also highlighted the competitive nature of the NPFL, where visiting teams increasingly seek to challenge established clubs on their home grounds. With the Aba encounter behind them, Warri Wolves will now focus on building upon their performance in subsequent league fixtures.
Abdallah’s emphasis on tactical preparation, possession and maintaining concentration could remain important as his team seeks greater consistency.
While the Seasiders were unable to secure the victory they initially targeted, their ability to avoid defeat against Enyimba provided encouragement.
For Hassan Abdallah, the goalless draw was not simply a fortunate result. It was the outcome of a tactical plan executed by his players, proving that preparation and discipline can deliver valuable points even at one of Nigerian football’s most demanding away venues.
